Have you seen the apps and online tools section of Reach Out’s professional website?
You are probably aware already of the main Reach Out website. It’s a youth oriented mental health website that contains a wealth of information about the things that young people (aged 14-25) struggle with – drugs, sex, bullying and mental health issues to name a few. There are sections for skills building and access is provided to moderated forums where users are free to discuss a whole range of issues with their peers. There is also a toolbox full of app recommendations for all sorts of issues – physical health and fitness, independence building, relationship skills, dealing with thoughts and emotions and dealing with difficult times.
The professional section of the website is different.
In its toolbox for example there is an explanation of how and why the resources were chosen for inclusion in the site. The information about apps and resources is organised according to diagnosis with greater explanation about how to use them. There are also some great materials to help professionals who want to improve their skill in working with young people. The page includes tips about such things as helping manage Year 12 stress, starting a conversation about sex or mental health with a young person, working with young people in rural areas and helping a young person whose parent has a mental illness.
Take a look at the site. I’m sure you’ll find something useful there.
