This one day course has been designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of clinicians who are new to paediatric nursing, or work in mixed adult/paediatric environments. It is also relevant for those nurses who are looking for an update on paediatric care. The course addresses a variety of contemporary issues relevant to nursing children in acute care environments.
This course explores fundamental concepts in paediatric nursing, such as issues of consent and family centred models of care. It reviews the physiological and developmental differences, including pharmacological differences for paediatrics from the neonatal period through to adolescence and adults. This course also includes assessment and initial management of the deteriorating child, procedural distraction and video demonstrations of key clinical skills.
This course is suited to both nurses working in dedicated paediatric areas, as well as those working in mixed adult/paediatric environments, such as emergency departments and peri-anaesthesia areas. It will benefit those who are new to paediatric nursing, as well as nurses who would like to update their knowledge on contemporary paediatric concepts.
